It's a little counter-intuitive to think a technical imaging studio would begin on a job-site, standing exterior walls and hauling roof sheathing, but we're not your average studio... Avatar studios was involved in almost every aspect of residential construction before our first computer was purchased. We learned a lot in those years, and that learning hasn't stopped.
Every member of our team has hands-on knowledge of construction—it's almost a prerequisite. Whether its setting concrete footings, standing roof trusses, or installing shower tile, all design elements that go into our final products are understood by us through our own career experience in construction.
We also know what customers are like in the building industry. Collectively, we have sat down with over one hundred construction customers - often times with their builders as well - helping them to ensure their visions translate into their projects accurately. Our time spent walking customers through the details, budgets, and options, guides us in how we shape our content today.
Drafting work was our bread and butter for over 5 years. During that time we developed professional relationships with city building inspectors, land developers, engineers, subcontractors, interior designers, product suppliers... you name it.
We know our building code—our drafting expertise was largely in "debugging" home plans, ensuring that what the builder and the customer were agreeing to would pass muster with government regulations.
The studio still keeps a hard-copy of our latest building code in the office to have on hand to ensure accuracy for all our work.
We're just as comfortable working with napkin scratches as we are with permit-ready documents (albeit our pricing may differ!). If something needs to be clarified to get the job done, we'll just draw it ourselves.
We have always provided 3D imaging hand-in-hand with our services. It's at the core of who we are.
Our design sessions with builders and their customers would almost always involve us manipulating a 3D model of the project on the board-room TV. The two parties would stand in front and discuss design elements, pricing, and scheduling. We would be on our computer at the back—updating the model, providing camera angles, confirming dimensions, and creating copies of different variations for the customer to take home to consider, and for the builder to send out for quotes.
Our 3D imaging specialty has also taken us beyond conventional perspective imaging. Isometric exploded-views, cutaway views, and overlays of proposed remodels to existing structures are all disciplines Avatar Studios is deeply familiar with.
It's human nature—we simply want to interact.
People love engaging experiences. Even as youngsters this quality is central to who we are—play is the work of childhood, and nothing is more fun than play that is engaging. As adults in the digital world, we love the feeling of swiping our thumb across our phone and watching our phone answer back, all the while being engrossed in the experience.
Avatar Studios holds the bar when it comes to captivating and engaging digital content for the construction community. Since 2015 we have been obsessed with crafting interactive experiences that are as intuitive as they are informative. Everything we produce is in support of the interactive experience.
Our view is that people don’t want content. They want answers. Or they want to have fun. Or both.
Peter Loves Construction. He started in the industry as a carpenter's helper, and began his own drafting service after seeing the sizable need for better customer service in his home city. That drafting service soon evolved into Avatar Studios.
When he's not pushing the studio to new horizons, Peter can be found spending time with his wife and two girls, or getting back to his family farm in Alberta.
